What do I do now? Let's get your Bankruptcy Questions Answered
Do you want answers to your bankruptcy questions?
I had a lot of questions before I filed and I really didn't know where to go for answers. I didn't want to ask friends or co-workers because I didn't want them to know that I was even considering filing. Filing bankruptcy is confusing and overwhelming at best. It can also be quite embarassing.
Let me tell you, though, there is no shame in filing bankruptcy. The shame comes from your
beliefs.
What do you believe filing for bankruptcy means?
My best advise is to find out the answers to your bankruptcy questions and then decide what is right for you and your family.
Some Quick Answers to Some Common Bankruptcy Questions
Will I stop being harrassed?
Yes, you will! By law, all actions against you must stop once bankruptcy documents are filed. Creditors cannot start up or continue any lawsuits, wage garnishees, or even telephone calls. They cannont demand payments. Keep in mind though that a secured creditor with a lien on a car, could get the stay lifted if you cannot make payments.
Who will find out?
When you file Chapter 7 it does enter into the public records. However, I don't think your friends are in the business of checking up on bankruptcy filings! Under normal circumstances, no one will know you filed for Chapter 7.
How long will it be on my credit report?
The Credit Bureaus will record your filing and it will remain on your credit record for 10 years.
