The Law of Relativity
The law of Relativity states:
All laws are related to each other and corresond with each other
In learning about
the law of polarity
we discovered the law of opposites. This is somewhat similar. In this law we are dealing with the idea that there is no fast or slow, good or bad, huge or tiny without each other - in other words we only know big when we compare it to small.
It's all about how we relate things to each other. When something happens to you it is not good or bad until you relate it to something else.
When you find yourself saying I should have more money, I could have done this faster, I should be smarter, I should be more spiritual, you are inside the law of relativity. More money relates with less money, faster relates with slower, smarter relates with dumber, more spiritual relates to less spiritual.
What this tells me is that I can always have more money, be faster, smarter and more spiritual. There will always be someone who has more and is more of something than I am. AND there will always be someone who has less than I have. It's all relative. So, don't beat yourself up. You are where you are.
Breaking it down, think about the amount of money you have in the bank. Whatever the number, there will be someone with more than you and there will be someone with less than you. If you are upset and telling yourself stories about how much you don't have, stop and think about all of those that have less than you.
We are the wealthiest country in the world. If we relate ouselves to third world countries we can't help but to feel blessed with all that we have. When we think about it, how can we feel bad because we don't have x number of dollars in the bank when we compare it to not having plumbing in the house.
Try getting into the habit of being grateful for what you do have. If you start getting into feeling bad about what you don't have, how do you feel when you relate it to when you had less?
What the Law of Relativity is saying is that whatever it is, it is neither good or bad, right or wrong until you relate it to something else. Remember that you have control on how you relate what is going on in your life.
Zen Master & The Law of Relativity
I love this story. Notice that it is all relative.
This is a Taoist story of an old farmer who had worked his crops for many years. One day his horse ran away. Upon hearing the news, his neighbors came to visit.
“Such bad luck,” they said sympathetically.
“We’ll see,” the farmer replied.
The next morning the horse returned, bringing with it three other wild horses.
“How wonderful,” the neighbors exclaimed.
“We’ll see,” replied the old man.
The following day, his son tried to ride one of the untamed horses, was thrown, and broke his leg. The neighbors again came to offer their sympathy on his misfortune.
“We’ll see,” answered the farmer.
The day after, military officials came to the village to draft young men into the army. Seeing that the son’s leg was broken, they passed him by. The neighbors congratulated the farmer on how well things had turned out.
“We’ll see” said the farmer.
It's all Relative!
